About Countryside Youth Soccer Association

Countryside Lightning Soccer Club (CYSA) was formed in 1981 with a mission to provide a quality program for boys and girls ages 4 to 19, regardless of their ability levels.

We will provide quality coaching at all levels of play in order to develop players to their fullest potential.

For players who want to maximize their abilities and play at a higher level, we provide competitive play. A recreational league is provided for those who want to play in a less competitive atmosphere.

In both avenues, we strive to continue the exceptional reputation and tradition Countryside Lightning has established in the soccer community and the State of Florida.

Merger announcement to the Members

March 5, 2008

In January of this year, the Executive Boards of the Clearwater Chargers and Countryside Lightning Soccer Clubs completed the merger of our two Clubs. This merger brings together the rich histories and outstanding traditions of both Clubs, and, in so, giving all the Players, Parents, Coaches and Board members a bright and exciting future in our new organization, the CLEARWATER SOCCER CLUB.

The Club will continue to focus on all aspects of soccer, including, Recreational teams, Competitive teams, U.S. Development Academy programs and the outstanding T.O.P.S program. Every aspect is vital to the success of this new Club, knowing that hurdles are sure to come up, we are committed to making this Club a place for all our members to be proud of!

Our Competitive teams will continue to play at the highest level of competition, including the Premier Youth League in the State, the Club Directors League (CDL), the Region III League, FLUGSA, the Florida State League (FSL), United Soccer Association (USA) as well as the USYSA National League. I addition our teams will have the opportunity to participate in the NIKE Friendlies, Manchester United Cup as well as other Show case events during the year.

We are also very proud of being selected as a member of the United States Soccer Federations, Development Academy ,  a program that will be the cornerstone of the Clubs foundation for many years to come. For more information on this program, go to www.ussoccer.com  click on U.S. Soccer Development Academy icon.

The Recreational program will continue to grow with a dedicated staff to over see the day to day operation of this program. A Director of Administration will handle the registration and office responsibility and two dedicated Directors of Coaching will each handle a part of the coaching program.

The need for volunteers is also a vital part of building a CLUB atmosphere; we will always need our members to staff and support the Club in its many functions during the year, without your support it would not be possible to have a Club that has always been a leader in the soccer community.

Tryout information, sites, times and coaching staff will be posted on both web sites in April and May. All teams will go through tryouts as one Club Starting this year. It is the goal of the Club, to build the program with two or more teams in each age group, with all teams receiving the same commitment from the coaches and Club as the next, in order to form a solid foundation for years to come. The Club will have a place for all players at every level to play, develop, learn and have a positive experience!

Please keep checking the current website of both Clubs for further updates on the CLEARWATER SOCCER CLUB.

Countryside and Charger Initial Merger Announcement
The Boards of Directors (BOD)s of the Clearwater Chargers and Countryside Lightning are pleased to announce a merger of our two organizations. Some synergies will be realized right away, but a merger of this magnitude to be done right and provide lasting, quality results, is a long-term commitment that will take time to work through all the integration details. The BODs will be working through the summer to develop the organization charts and infrastructure to address all the necessary items of the full integration of our groups into one. There is no turning back and no “trial” combination; we are committed to work through every question and issue necessary to integrate our two organizations in the most effective way to address the needs of our membership for years to come. With that understood, each organization will continue with their separate scheduled try-outs that begin on Saturday, June 2nd, to select the competitive teams for the 2007-08 season, and expect to collectively have multiple teams in every age group as we always have.

We are all very excited that this long needed, much discussed decision has finally been reached. The benefits of combining the strengths and resources of players, coaches, facilities and administration upon full integration will result in an organization that will be even greater than the sum of its parts in fulfilling the soccer needs for all players from recreation, TOPs, academy and competitive, and will forever change for the better the soccer landscape in our community, the state and with our peers around the nation.

We ask that you direct all questions to the respective Presidents of each organization, as they have the correct information to address your questions. Any unofficial communication should be considered opinion or conjecture only.  We will communicate as quickly as reasonable, as additional decisions and information is available.

Additionally, we are pleased to announce a recently agreed to partnership with Hillsborough United beginning this year, to further unite and develop soccer in the greater Tampa Bay area through our combined efforts. The logistics of such will obviously require much more time to work through the particulars and details of with the intent of affecting a merger as well by next summer.
